Top 5 – Awesome Movies Coming Out in February
After a not-so-terrible January, we now come to February, which, recently, has proven to be a decent month for film. Over the last few years we’ve gotten films like Deadpool (2016), Kingsman: The Secret Service (2015), The LEGO Movie (2014), and Shutter Island (2010) coming out during this month. This trend of solid films looks to continue this month, as we are slated for a diverse collection of films. Here are my picks for the most exciting movies coming out in February.
5 – A CURE FOR WELLNESS (Gore Verbinski, February 17)
I was able to see this movie a few days ago and I have to say, this is going to be one of the wildest movies you will see in 2016. I’ll keep this short, as my review will be up shortly, but this is a wild, Shutter Island (2010)-esque film with twists and turns at every corner and solid performances from Dane DeHaan and Jason Isaacs.
4 – GET OUT (Jordan Peele, February 24)
Jordan Peele, half of the comedy duo Key & Peele, makes his directorial debut in this wild horror/comedy that made a huge splash at this year’s Sundance Film Festival. When an African-American man visits his Caucasian girlfriend’s family, he suspects they may not be what they perceive. I’ve always felt Peele has been overshadowed by Kegan Michael Key, so this is a golden opportunity for him to shine behind the camera. Peele is also a brilliant writer, and this looks like a scary-funny satire on racism, White America, and interracial relationships.
3 – FIST FIGHT (Richie Keen, February 17)
Who wouldn’t want to see a movie where Ice Cube fights Charlie Day? I love Ice Cube, I love Charlie Day, and I love the supporting cast of Tracy Morgan (welcome back), Jillian Bell, Kumail Najiani, and Christina Hendricks. The movie is sure to be hilarious and, being the film’s payoff, the fight is awesome. And I love the R-rating, which shows they aren’t going to pull any of their punches (Pun? Sure.)
2 – THE LEGO BATMAN MOVIE (Chris McKay, February 10)
The LEGO Movie (2014) was one of the biggest and best surprises of the decade. It was a smart, meta, visually stunning animated feat that was hilarious and sweet. One of the best parts of the film was Batman, voiced by Will Arnett. He now gets his own movie and it looks awesome. The trailers are great, promising more smart, hilarious humor with some explosive action, all while taking a jab at the comic book genre. Featuring a great voice cast of Arnett, Michael Cera as Robin, Ralph Fiennes as Alfred, Zach Galifanakis as The Joker, and Jenny Slate as Harley Quinn, this is sure to be the best use of D.C. superheroes since Christopher Nolan.
1 – JOHN WICK 2 (Chad Stahelski, February 10)
Much like The LEGO Movie, John Wick came out of nowhere in 2014 to be the sleeper hit of the year and relaunch the career of Keanu Reeves. John Wick, the movie and character, define the word bad ass. The movie is a no-holds-barred barrage of bullets and blood and the character is a relentless assassin seeking revenge for his puppy. Why would I not want to see this man again? And, we get the return of Morpheus as Neo, as Laurence Fishburne makes an appearance in the film. Anybody wondering if John Wick is back? Yeah, I’m thinking he’s back!
